The first miss Nigeria has turned 90 on November 16, 2021.
The former beauty pageant known as Grace Atinuke Oyelude, was crowned Miss Nigeria in 1957. Oyelude had formerly revealed that she became the first Miss Nigeria by accident.
Her brother who was a broadcaster at that time saw the advertisement and decided to register her without her knowledge even though she was based in Kano and the competition was in Lagos.
After Oyelude won the pageantry she was given a 200 Pounds prize money and a vacation to London for two weeks. She later gained admission into the school of nursing, Ashford, Kent, and became a state registered nurse in 1961. Oyelude proceeded to become a midwife and hospital administrator.
