Ex-Yobe Governorship Aspirant Leads 1,000 APC Members’ Defection To PDP

No fewer than a thousand members of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), have reportedly defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Yobe State.

A governorship aspirant in the 2019 general election, Dr Aji Kolomi, reportedly led a group of the defectors to the opposition party, Ezenwoko’s Blog learnt.

Confirming the development, PDP’s Publicity Secretary in Yobe, Hon. Salihu Mohammed Baba, said in a statement made available to newsmen on Thursday that Kolomi joined the umbrella camp alongside hundreds of his supporters and were received at the party’s secretariat in Damaturu, the state capital.

According to Baba, the opposition party since it kicked off the Operation Flush APC In Yobe has received over 1,000 APC loyalists into its fold.

He explained that the new entrants, comprising of men and women, were mostly from Abasha, Layin PS and Malaria areas within the metropolis.

“As the operation continues steadily, we welcome the new entrants into our great party the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP), and urge our teeming youth to answer the clarion call by joining PDP for better Yobe and Nigeria”, Baba appealed.

Ezenwoko’s Blog understands that Yobe State is a ‘stronghold’ of the APC and it is currently being governed by the Chairman APC Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, Governor Mai Mala Buni.

Meanwhile, former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose has stated that he has no preferred candidate for the 2022 governorship election in Ekiti State.

Fayose who spoke on Wednesday said his aim at the moment is to unite all party members and ensure the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) wins the state governorship election.

He reiterated that anyone that wins the party primaries and emerges the PDP candidate, even if it is former Governor Segun Oni will get his full support.

On joining the race for the 2023 presidency, Fayose pointed out that he believes a person who wants to rule Nigeria must first govern his state.

This he stated in response to the question on joining the growing list of aspirants for the number one political seat in the country, Ezenwoko’s Blog reports.
