Euro Wrap: Success nets first Serie A goal; Okoye keeps first clean sheet; Olayinka scores winner for Slavia
In his first start in the Italian top-flight, Isaac Success smashed home his first league goal for Udinese in their 1-1 draw with Verona on Wednesday night.
Success had appeared from the bench to make his debut for Udinese at Atalanta at the weekend, and he did enough to impress Italian coach Luca Gotti.
The former Watford ace was handed his first start at the Dacia Arena, and he only needed three minutes to give the home side the lead after diverting Tolgay Ali Arslan’s pass into the net.
Success was replaced midway through the second half, only for Verona to rescue a point through Antonin Barak’s 83rd-minute penalty.
Nigerian-Italian fullback Destiny Udogie featured for 84 minutes in the colours of Udinese.
In the Netherlands, Nigerian goalkeeper Maduka Okoye was in goal as Sparta Rotterdam progressed to the second round of the KNVB Beker with a 2-0 win at lower league side GVVV.
It was Okoye and Sparta’s first match in eleven competitive games without conceding a goal this season. They will look to replicate that when they return to league action against Feyenoord at the weekend.
Elsewhere, Peter Olayinka continued his fine form in the Czech Republic as his 5th-minute effort was enough to inspire Slavia to a slender win at home to Sigma Olomouc.
It was the 25-year-old’s third goal in as many league games for the reigning Liga champions.
All of Randers’ three Nigerians were excellent as The Horses blasted past 2.Division side Middlefart with a comprehensive 4-0 win in the DBU Pokalen.
Vincent Onovo assisted the opening goal for the Thomas Thomasberg-led side before Tosin Kehinde doubled the advantage from the penalty spot just past the hour mark.
Man-of-the-moment Stephen Odey then came off the bench to net his third goal in two Danish cup games after Jakob Ankersen had made it three-nil for the visitors.
The on-loan Genk striker already has four goals in six league games for the Danish side.
