‘Culprits Will Be Punished’ – Buhari Reacts To Plateau Killings
President Muhammadu Buhari has condemned the killing of 18 residents during an attack on Ancha community in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Ezenwoko’s Blog reports that the residents were killed during an attack on the community by unknown gunmen on Tuesday night while several houses were burnt.
In a statement on Thursday issued by his spokesman, Garba Shehu, the president expressed sadness over the tragic incident, saying that such violence is unacceptable.
President Buhari also asked stakeholders in the state to ensure that the peace deal involving residents in the LGA does not “collapse”.
The Nigerian leader stated that the recent attack goes against the peace agreement reached between the Irigwe and the Fulani in the area, commending Governor Simon Lalong for his efforts in tackling the situation.
Buhari also urged communities in the area and the Plateau inter-religious council to “do everything possible to commit to the peace agreement and prevent it from falling apart”.
He, therefore, commiserated with the families of the victims, praying that God grant them eternal rest.
