Buhari Will Retire To Kaduna After His Tenure – El-Rufai

Governor Nasir el-Rufai has said that President Muhammadu Buhari will retire to Kaduna State after the end of his tenure in 2023.

Speaking on Tuesday during a chat with State House Correspondents after meeting with the Nigerian leader, el-Rufai said the president spent most of his life in Kaduna.

The governor argued that this makes Buhari a Kaduna-based citizen, despite being from Daura in Katsina State.

el-Rufai asserted that the president has been invited to come and commission some projects in the state, hoping that Buhari will be happy with his achievements.

He said, “Mr President has been invited to come and commission some of our projects. He will spend two to three days in Kaduna commissioning projects in Kafanchan, Kaduna and Zaria.

“As you know, the President is a Kaduna-based citizen. He is originally from Katsina state, but he spent most of his life in Kaduna. And he’s retiring to Kaduna.

“We hope that he will be happy with what we have done and he will be proud of what we have done as an APC government, and we appreciate all the support that he has given us to enable us to do this.

Meanwhile, the Ekiti State Governor and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), Kayode Fayemi has commended President Buhari’s decision to reject the Electoral Act Amendment Bill forwarded to him for assent by the National Assembly.

Fayemi said Buhari stood by the people in rejecting the bill and must be commended for his courageous stand despite pressures from many sides.

The Governor said just like him, President Buhari is someone that has tasted both direct and indirect primaries and needs no lecture on the pros and cons of each method.

He stated however that what the President did by withdrawing assent to the bill is to give political parties the freedom to decide how to choose their candidate and not necessarily put one method over the other.

Fayemi made the submission on Tuesday during a chat with State House correspondents after meeting President Buhari at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja.
