Borno: Battle Between ISWAP Fighters And Nigerian Army Enters 8th Hour

Troops of the Nigerian Army have neutralised many fighters of the Islamic State in West Africa Province in an ongoing battle in Borno.

Ezenwoko’s Blog had earlier reported that the terrorists stormed Askira town in Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State on Saturday morning and thereafter proceeded to attack a military base in the community.

The news platform further reported that the clash between the ISWAP fighters and the military-led to the death of Brig-Gen Dzarma Zirkusu, the Commander of the Army’s Special Forces.

The spokesman of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier-General Onyema Nwachukwu, who confirmed the incident disclosed that the battle was ongoing.

According to Nwachukwu apart from troops of the military killing the terrorists, they have also destroyed many of their gun trucks.

“Troops of Joint Task Force, North East Operation HADIN KAI, have neutralized several Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists during a recent encounter in Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.”

It was gathered that the clash between fighters of ISWAP and troops of the Nigerian Amry has lasted for eight hours and has caused disarray in the affected community.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army in a statement released on Saturday evening has not revealed the identity of other military officers that were killed in the ongoing clash.
