Birnin Yauri: Bandits Free Kidnapped Kebbi Students, Teachers

Bandits have released 27 students and three teachers of Federal Government College Birnin Yauri, who had been in their custody for about four months.

The release was confirmed on Thursday evening when they were received by the Kebbi State Governor, Atiku Bagudu.

Receiving the released victims at the state government house in Birnin Kebbi around 6pm, Governor Bagudu explained that they are yet to be reunited with their families as they will first have to go through medical screening.

Ezenwoko’s Blog gathered those released by the bandits include two girls, 25 boys, one female, and two male teachers.

The Kebbi Governor said they were still working to secure the release of others still in captivity.

It will be recalled that 96 students of the Federal Government College, Birnin Yauri were abducted on June 17 when the bandits stormed their school premises.

The attackers, who rode on motorcycles, were said to have stormed the school from neighbouring Rijau forest in the early hours of the day, overpowered the mobile policemen guarding the school and escaped with the students and others.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has revealed suspects behind the attack on of its trains along the Kaduna-Abuja track on Wednesday.

Ezenwoko’s Blog earlier reported that a former Kaduna Senator, Shehu Sani had disclosed that terrorists attacked the Kaduna Abuja railway with an explosive and opened fire on the train, targeting the engine driver and the tank.

Sani added that he was on board the train on Thursday morning when the train ran over another explosive that damaged the rail track, adding that it took a miracle for them to escape.

This news outlet had reported that the NRC immediately suspended the Kaduna-Abuja service as a precaution to keep the passengers safe.
