‏Bandits in the North are currently going through a hunger phase as they are now demanding for cooked food as ransom from some of their victims.

A youth leader in one of the villages in Gwari local government areas identified as Babangida Yaro told Daily Trust that since the Kaduna state government banned weekly markets it has become increasingly difficult for the bandits to get food.

Yaro revealed that every time bandits operating in Damari, Kutemashi, Kuyello kidnapped people what they asked for in return was always cooked meals.

He also added that the ban on the sale of fuel in filling stations in rural communities has also led to restricted movement for the bandits.

He said: “There is relative peace around Damari, kuyello, Kutemashi because the bandits have stopped attacking our communities. They usually stay in the forest and seize food items mostly cooked ones from vendors.”

The youth leader also informed the publication that the Dogo Dawa area of the state was still not considered safe because villagers were scared of going to their farmlands.

He added that the ban on motorcycles had made life increasingly hard for the residents.
