Bandit Terrorists Kidnap Scores Of Travellers On Kaduna Expressway
Gunmen suspected to be bandits have kidnapped scores of traders along Kaduna–Birnin Gwari Highway after attacking their convoy.
Ezenwoko’s Blog gathered that the gunmen attacked the convoy containing 20 vehicles, which were led by a police escort.
The incident happened around 11 am on Wednesday and that most of the victims were traders travelling to Kano State for business.
It was gathered that some of the traders that ran into the bush called their relations to inform them of the situation.
A community leader identified as Muhammadu Umaru, said that four of his neighbours were abducted.
“We have about 70 of our traders from Udawa town alone and there are others from neighbouring towns in the convoy that was attacked between Udawa and Buruku along the highway.
“My neighbours were involved because we call their phones and a bandit picked the call,” he told Daily Trust.
On Tuesday, Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna met with President Muhammadu Buhari over the growing security challenges in the North West state.
Briefing State House Correspondents after meeting with President Buhari, Governor El-Rufai called for the total annihilation of bandits and terrorists.
The governor also rejected calls for the rehabilitation of terrorists, calling on security operatives to carry out aggressive operations against the terrorists.
El-Rufai asserted that the recent declaration of bandits as terrorists has given the military more power to wage war against them.
He added that the military knows the location of the bandits but that the government is wary of the collateral damage it could cause the civilian community.
