Anambra: Gunmen Behead Physically Challenged Ex-Lawmaker

The Anambra State Police Command has launched investigations into the death of a physically challenged ex-lawmaker identified as Nelson Achukwu.

The former member of the Anambra State House of Assembly and a businessman was reportedly kidnapped from his home in Ukpor on June 9, 2022, by unknown gunmen.

Nelson Achukwu was later found by his relatives on Tuesday 21st June 2022 with a decapitated body and was quickly buried as the corpse has started to decompose.

The decapitated body of the late former lawmaker was reportedly found between the boundary of Uke and Ukpor areas of the state.

Punch reports that it was the second kidnap of Nelson Achukwu as he was earlier abducted by the gunmen a few months ago and was later released after the payment of N15 million ransom.

The gunmen had accused the late lawmaker of providing information to the military but got released when they discover that the allegations against him were false but the reason for his second kidnap and murder is unknown.

The Anambra State Police Spokesman Tochukwu Ikenga who confirmed the incident said investigations were ongoing and assured that the command would do everything within its power to arrest the perpetrators of the crime

He said: “The victim was abducted at about 10:15 pm in his house on June 9 and efforts were been made to rescue him before this unfortunate development. His body was found between the boundary of Uke and Ukpor.

“We are still not relenting in our investigation as we will ensure that the culprits will face the law.”
