A chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Victor Umeh was denied access on Tuesday morning by security forces in Ihiala local government headquarters.

Umeh who is said to have arrived at the LGA headquarters with other party members was confronted by the GOC, 82 Division for showing up where they shouldn’t be.

“You are not supposed to be here,” the GOC reportedly screamed at Umeh who insisted that he was there “to ensure things go well”.

Naija News reports that there is a heavy security presence in Ihiala on Tuesday to ensure the smooth running of the last lap of the Anambra State governorship election in the LGA.

The State Commissioner of Police, Echeng Echeng, had confirmed during an interview with Channels TV on Monday night the deployment of over one thousand policemen in Ihiala.

According to Echeng, the policemen are there to provide maximum security, adding that they would be complemented by other security agencies to ensure the smooth completion of the Tuesday polls.

“All the tactical teams, Police Mobile Force (PMF) teams, we have pushed enough into Ihiala because we want to make sure that at every point that we anticipate a problem, we dominate the area. For whoever wants to come out tomorrow will have his own story to tell,” Echeng further explained during the live interview.

Ezenwoko’s Blog reports that the election was not held in Ihiala last weekend after officials said technical glitches, logistics, and uncertainties over security hindered the process.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, however, on Monday announced that a supplementary election would hold between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday (today).
