AFCON Qualifiers: Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa fires warning to Guinea-Bissau ahead of clash

The Super Eagles of Nigeria defeated Guinea-Bissau in 2022 with 2 goals to nil at the AFCON 2021

The Super Eagles captain and Sivasspor player, Ahmed Musa, has highlighted the significance of the Africa qualifying match against Guinea-Bissau.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria had a dismal run of a campaign in the year 2022 after being shown the exit door too early in the 2021 Africa Cup country encounter against Tunisia, and then losing the 2022 World Cup ticket to the Black Stars of Ghana.

However, Musa reassured that the team had put the horrors of the previous year behind them, and they are prepared to recover with a win over the African wild dogs.

The 30-year-old explained to the media at the pre-match press conference before the first leg of the doubleheader match against Guinea-Bissau that they know their opponent will be challenging, but added that they would give it their all.

“I think nobody can ever forget that game because we the players, it’s not that easy for us, and we know what Nigerians always want, and that is the world cup we did not qualify, and there is nothing we can do. But this is AFCON, so in Africa, this AFCON is very important to qualify and we all know the importance of the game not to lose,” Musa remarked.

“We know that the team is going to be very difficult tomorrow, but we are at home, so we have to give our best to make Nigerians happy.

“As you can see, in the country, everything is happening and only football makes us happy nowadays so we have to do our best to make them happy.” he added.

Baciro Candé’s side have yet to lose in the Group A qualifying rankings, having secured four points from a draw and a victory.

Musa claimed that the squad are returning to the same place they lost their ticket to Ghana, and the team are aiming to bounce back as they face Guinea-Bissau.

The former Leicester City forward added: “We all know the importance of the game, so, we are not taking it that easy because we know the opponent, we played them at the AFCON; they are a very difficult team, and we are not going to take it easy against them.

“We are playing at home, we don’t have to lose that game, so In sha Allah, we are going all out tomorrow to win the game so that we can have one more step forward to the AFCON.”

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are slated to tackle Guinea-Bissau by 5:00 p.m. Nigerian time at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja.
