Job Description

  • Action Against Hunger is currently looking to fill the role of WASH Program Manager who will ensure technical implementation of Action Against Hunger- Cholera Response Nigeria, adoption and adherence to CATI approach in the implementation of the Project Nigeria, To develop Action Against Hunger understanding of Cholera issues in Nigeria (intervention States) and supervise WASH program staff at field bases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and ensure the use of appropriate techniques and materials for cholera sensitization, hygiene promotion and training.
  • Ensure contractual activities are completed on time, within budget and with acceptable quality.
  • Routine follow up with project team to ensure all CATI forms are duly completed and synchronize on Mwater platform.
  • Conduct routine data quality checks on all data submitted/synchronized to ensure conformity with the project demands.
  • Analyze and report on the evolving cholera response needs and provide clear recommendations for interventions.
  • Follow up of WASH program budgets in liaison with the Admin coordinator and program managers, to ensure budget expenditure is in line with program objectives and timeline.
  • Collaborate and communicate with Technical and Support Head of Departments, Program Managers, CD, and any other Action Against Hunger resource people in order to ensure the coherence of activities and reports in terms of Action Against Hunger WASH strategy.
  • Participate in coordination meeting and cholera working group held at LGA and state levels.
  • Oversee the work of WASH program staff in order to ensure good compliance of activities within the objectives of the mission and of proposals – this includes regular visits to the field sites in order to evaluate achievements, to discuss the constraints encountered, the possible solutions and to make recommendations for current and future programs.

Position Requirements

  • Master's Degree and Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Public Health (Bachelor level or equivalent/higher) in a field related to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene.
  • Additional training courses specific to WASH in development contexts (such as Bioforce Institute graduates), and/or Program Management professional certifications, strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant working experience, in a WASH Emergency management/supervisory capacity.
  • Strong computer literacy, organizational and planning skills, report writing, budget oversight.
  • Commitment to upholding Action Against Hunger's values, excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Microsoft Office software Skills (Outlook, Excel, Power Point, Word).
  • Willing and able to be based and travel regularly within states, LGAs and remote areas, where services are limited.

Job Description

  • Action Against Hunger is currently looking to fill the role of WASH Engineer who will be working under the leadership and guidance of the WASH Sector Manager, accountable for professional technical contribution to drilling and construction of the WASH project activities within the framework of the project in Jigawa, Kano and Sokoto State, Nigeria.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Program Manager to assess the entire sanitation needs, provide design, BOQ, specification and implement the most appropriate form of sanitation system accepted by the beneficiaries.
  • To supervise projects and ensure quality assurance of construction being delivered and adherence to design specifications and do not harm policy.
  • Provide full support to WASH Program Manager in maintaining regular contact with local stakeholders including Government Ministries/Department/Agencies.
  • Preparation of technical progress reports and report verbally and in writing to the WASH Program Manager as requested to advice on progress, constraints and any other issues that may impact on work plans.
  • Build a data base of technical support projects and share with relevant stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with PHP in selection and training all community volunteers and enumerators on CATI approach response and Mwater tool.
  • Prepare training tools on relevant technical topics and conduct trainings for both internal staff and external stakeholders.

Position Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Water Engineering, Hydrology, Civil Engineering, Building and other related fields with a minimum of 3 years field experience.
  • Professional, good organizational capacity, motivated, open, creative, mature, responsible, flexible and, culturally sensitive.
  • Willing and able to be based and travel regularly within remote areas, where services are limited.
  • Fluency in Hausa and English.
  • Team and contractor management skills.
  • Monitoring and reporting skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of WASH interventions using the SPHERE standards.

  • Good knowledge of appropriate technology for latrine construction, desludging and sludge treatment practices, water source development, solid waste management.

  • The Research Officer Will be responsible for collection of quantitative and qualitative data, data management, monitoring of data collection and ensuring data quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Follow up with project team to ensure all CATI forms are duly completed and synchronize on Mwater platform.
  • Ensure that, the selected enumerators are willing to support the research work in their communities.
  • Providing constructive feedback and support to other members within the research team to improve data quality.
  • Conduct daily data quality checks on all data submitted/synchronized to ensure conformity with the research need.
  • Ensure protection and privacy of all data collected.
  • Proactively identify good practices and suggest improvement to the overall data tool.
  • Prepare and organise a training to all selected enumerators on Mwater tools.
  • Organise and train RRT, health workers from CTC and CTU on wash management of cholera case.
  • Ensure timely and quality data entry, analysis and interpretation by working closely with the responsible person.

Position Requirements

  • Degree in Statistics, Developmental Studies, Engineering, Demography or a related subject, with previous experience working in humanitarian projects.

Job Description

  • Action Against Hunger is currently looking to fill the role of Hygiene Officer (PHP & NFI) who will be working under the leadership and guidance of the WASH Program Manager and is accountable for the overall implementation of the Public health promotion and Non-Food Items distribution of the WASH project.

Key Responsibilities

  • In coordination with the WASH Program Manager, revise and adapt hygiene promotion training material to local context and in line with target groups to be trained.
  • In coordination with the Program Manager, participate in the development of culturally appropriate Cholera IEC materials, conduct pre-test at community level to inform the final design. Disseminate IEC materials alongside hygiene promotion activities. This should be drawn up as a communication plan.
  • Represent Action Against Hunger at local level WASH meetings and technical working groups relating to Public Health promotion and NFI distribution as required by your line manager.
  • Work closely with the WASH technical (Engineering) team in the implementation of WASH activities especially in the area of community engagement.
  • Ensure that the beneficiary user (women, men & children) particularly vulnerable individuals/groups are consulted on numbers, design and identification of location prior to implementation/construction of WASH Facilities.
  • Ensure timely and quality data entry, analysis and interpretation by working closely with the Research Officer.
  • Organise and train RRT, health workers from CTC and CTU on wash management of cholera case.

Position Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Public Health, Sociology, Rural Development or other related fields.
