‘Our Choices Have Consequences’ – Makinde Reacts To Suspension Of Twitter Ban

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has reacted to the suspension of the Twitter ban by the Muhamadu Buhari Government.

Ezenwoko’s Blog reports that the federal government on Wednesday announced that following an agreement on certain terms, the seven-month-old ban on Twitter operation in Nigeria has been lifted.

In a tweet via his verified Twitter handle on Friday, Makinde said the ban on the platform will have consequences on the country and the citizens.

The governor joined other Nigerians in condemning the government for suspending the operation of the bird app in June 2021 over flimsy excuse.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, however, urged Nigerians to make the right electoral choices ahead of the 2023 general elections.

He wrote: “As I take down my pinned tweet which showed my unequivocal stand against the #TwitterBan which lasted 222 days, I’d like to remind us all that our choices have consequences. With the 2023 elections around the corner, I hope we are prepared to make the right electoral choices.”

Meanwhile, the National Leader of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, has commenced his 2023 presidential campaign on Twitter.

Ezenwoko’s Blog reports that the former governor of Lagos launched his campaign hashtag #BAT2023 on the microblogging platform on Thursday while commending the Federal Government for lifting the ban on the bird app seven months after it was prohibited in the country.

According to Tinubu, Twitter just like every other social media is useful to citizens as they are a means of communication and an avenue that enables economic and social empowerment for Nigerians.

Tinubu tweeted: “Social media – indeed all media – including Twitter, are a means for us to all communicate, report, share and engage with stories and each other; to enable economic and social empowerment for Nigerians. But sometimes & sometime are misused.

“I commend the FG for recognising these aspects and most importantly, concluding negotiations for the safe return of access to Twitter to the millions of Nigerians who use it, daily. Welcome back one and all!
