Tight security at polling units
Security personnel have been put in place at all the polling units conducting the ongoing Kano State House of Assembly re-run elections.
The rerun election is being conducted in three constituencies: Tsanyawa/Kunchi, Kura/Garun Mallam and Tofa/Rimin Gado.
PUNCH correspondent who visited the Kura Local Government Area reported that adequate security personnel were provided at the polling units while voters were casting their votes without any hindrance.
The Kano State Commissioner of Police, Usaini Gumel, had earlier warned troublemakers to stay clear of the re-run election venues, as anyone who doesn’t have any business at election venues would be arrested.
In addition, carrying all sorts of weapons during the rerun election will not be tolerated, as only eligible voters screened by INEC will be allowed to vote.
Similarly, security operatives at the election venues were subjecting voters to thorough checking to ensure nobody brought any unwanted things within the voting areas.
At the Auzunawa polling unit in Kurunsumau ward where there was a large turnout of voters, armed policemen were seen controlling the crowd while eligible voters were casting their votes peacefully.
The story is the same in the Tafasa polling unit under the Kurunsumau ward. The rerun election is also being conducted in Kosawa and Danhassan wards.
Reports from other affected local government areas indicated that the election was going on peacefully without hitches.
