Four die as gunmen attack POS operators in Imo
No fewer than four persons were reported dead when gunmen struck at the Ohii junction located on the Owerri-Orlu Road in Imo State on Monday.
PUNCH Metro learnt that two of the victims were reportedly policemen on duty in the area.
Our correspondent saw a video clip circulating on various social media platforms showing the lifeless bodies of the victims.
A Facebook user, Anyaeri Bright, who shared a video clip of the incident, confirmed to our correspondent that two policemen and two civilians lost their lives in the attack.
Our correspondent gathered that the fleeing gunmen opened fire at the junction which claimed the lives of the victims.
As of the time of filing this report, the reason for the attack had yet to be ascertained.
This is even as some Point of Sales operators were attacked and monies dispossessed in parts of Owerri on Monday.
Presh Iheanacho said, “Earlier today, around 9am, some armed men in a Corolla vehicle attacked some POS shops and passersby just before Rapour Junction. Disposing them of cash and valuables.”
Iheanacho also disclosed that around 8am on Monday, some criminals stormed Christiana Junction on Egbu Road and robbed POS operators.
Another resident, Ikechukwu Eze, disclosed that some POS operators were robbed at the Amawire area of Orji on the Owerri-Okigwe Road.
The spokesperson for the police in the state, Henry Okoye, said he had yet to be informed when contacted.
He promised to make inquiries and get back to our correspondent but had yet to do so as of the time of filing this report.
