Ogun rules out tax filing deadline extension
The Ogun State Internal Revenue Service has warned that there would be no extension in the deadline for the filing of the 2023 annual tax returns.
The Executive Chairman OGIRS, Olugbenga Olaleye, said in a statement on Tuesday, highlighting that the statutory filing for 2023 employees’ tax returns was on or before January 31, 2024.
The chairman added that failure to file the tax returns within the stipulated timeframe would attract a penalty of N500,000 for corporate entities.
He enjoined them as responsible citizens to conduct their civic responsibilities as expected to enable the government to deliver on its electoral promises.
Earlier this year, the Internal Revenue Agency disclosed that it had digitised the minimum tax payment process in a bid to achieve the year 2024 revenue target and improve its performance.
Olaleye said digitisation of all tax transactions in the state would help the agency to capture more taxpayers and appropriately assess them to improve revenue generation.
