S’Court judgment on Delta governorship against electoral law – Gbagi
The governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party in the March 18, 2023 election in Delta State, Kenneth Gbagi, has expressed disappointment over the Supreme Court judgment.
The apex court had on Friday affirmed Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as the winner of the governorship election as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Gbagi, a former Minister of State for Education, expressed his position in a statement he signed in reaction to the court judgment on the petition he filed.
He said, “Fellow Deltans, the 19th day of January 2024, marks the darkest day in the history of the people of Delta State.
“The Supreme Court of Nigeria, being the last hope of the people, has decided the more than obvious embarrassing and fraudulent situation in Delta State in what the Republic of Nigeria and particularly Deltans have woken up to see this day.
“The judgment is against the express provisions of the constitution, the Electoral Act and the Guideline and Regulation issued by INEC under which the election was conducted.
“I, as Kenneth O. Gbagi have taken this first stage that has ended with the judgment of the Supreme Court on behalf of Deltans and the good people of Nigeria.”
While congratulating Oborevwori over the validation of his election victory by the Supreme Court, Gbagi said: “I will do a deep consultation with my political folks and will come up with a far-reaching decision more again in the interest of the great people of Delta State.”
