Brave Warriors a big price to gain second win

Namibia claimed their first-ever win at the Africa Cup of Nations with a shocking but deserved victory over Tunisia in the opening game of Group E. Looking at the match winner odds with Bet9ja for this clash, I was expecting South Africa to be the favourite. However, it was surprising to see Namibia as big as 4.35.

As the first of my tips, I am taking Namibia’s win over a safer option. The Brave Warriors were impressive against Tunisia, currently 28th in FIFA’s world rankings. They showed they can beat the 66th-ranked South Africans.

Looking at the stats from that opening victory, Collin Benjamin’s men had 13 shots to their opponents’ 10, with six on target. Their expected goals (xG) were 2.01 compared to Tunisia’s  0.78, indicating their win against the former champions was far from a fluke.

Bet 1: Namibia to win @ 4.35 with Bet9ja

Peter shall get on the scoresheet

As the next of my predictions, I am focusing on the player to score market. I thought the odds for Percy Tau, who had five shots and three on target in his opener, were big. Yet, the odds of the selection are even bigger.

Peter Shalulile, who plays domestically for the South African champions Mamelodi Sundowns, has plundered 54 league goals in 86 appearances. He scored four goals in four Qualification games for this tournament and was unlucky not to open his account in the opener.

The 30-year-old’s lack of success wasn’t because of a lack of effort, as he had six attempts at goal against Tunisia, with half of those on target. Expect a similar return here, but for him to get on the scoresheet at big odds.

Bet 2: Peter Shalulile to Score Anytime @ 4.75 with bet365

Bafana Bafana to get in spot of bother

At the time of writing, there have been four penalty kicks awarded in the opening 10 games of AFCON. Angola, Burkina Faso and Egypt have all taken successful trips to the spot, with only South Africa missing theirs.

The implementation of VAR has increased the number of penalty awards, with decisions not just happening in real time, but retrospectively too. With no straight “penalty to be awarded” market currently available, I am taking a chance of one being awarded to Namibia and converted at big odds.

Bet 3: Namibia to score a penalty @ 10.00 with bet365

Goals on the menu in Korhogo

After the first 10 matches at this year’s AFCON, there have been 22 goals at an average of 2.2 goals per game. At the same stage last tournament, there were just 10 goals scored.

The second round of games saw a leap to 29 goals, as sides faced the prospect of clinching early qualification or possible elimination. Expect a similar spike again. These two sides created plenty of chances in the opening fixtures, with the combined expected goals from both matches exceeding six.

With an Asian total of 2.0, the line is set low. This means if there are only two goals, we will get a full refund. You have to go back to 2019 for the last competitive head-to-head, which makes these stats fairly irrelevant. Therefore, I am happy to take this on with a minimum of three goals well within reach.

Bet 4: Over (2) Over/Under Asian @ 1.94 with Bet9ja
