The Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps said it has arrested a suspected kidnapper at Isale Asa, in the Opomalu area of Ilorin.

It said the 37-year-old suspect was arrested while attempting to abduct some pupils returning from school in Ilorin at about 1 pm on January 11, 2024.

“The suspect who claimed that he saw the victims on their way back from school and asked them to help him get dry fish was (been) proved wrong by a discreet investigation, which revealed that the suspect forcibly changed the direction of the children from their normal route in an attempt to kidnap them.”

He added that the suspects would be charged in a court of competent jurisdiction.

Meanwhile, the state sector command said it apprehended two suspects over the alleged production and sale of expired energy drinks.

It said the suspects were also alleged to have printed fake expiry dates on expired energy drinks and sold them to unsuspecting consumers.

The state Commandant, Umar Mohammed, while parading the suspects, said they were arrested by the anti-vandal unit of the command at the Amilegbe area beside Ipata Market in Ilorin, the state capital, following an intelligence tip-off.

Represented by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Ayoola Michael, he added, “On interrogation, Anafi (of the suspects) confessed that he started the illicit business with Mrs Susan (another suspect) who has been the business owner since 2023 when she contacted him to work for her with the promise of a handsome reward.

“He revealed that they were actually into the business of printing fake expiry dates on Vita Milk Energy products.”
