‘Distiller committed to culture promotion’
The producer of Eagles Aromatic Schnapps, Intercontinental Distillers Limited, has restated its commitment to promote local culture of its host communities through its support for annual festivals.
The IDL Insights and Category Manager, Tofunmi Opaleye, disclosed this at a courtesy visit meeting with the Olota of Ota, Oba Adeyemi Obalanlege, held at the monarch’s palace.
According to Opaleye, the meeting was an avenue to discus the support that will be offered by IDL towards the upcoming Ota Day usually called ‘Odun omo Iganmode’.
The Iganmode Day is an annual festival that brings together Awori sons and daughters from home and abroad to celebrate the culture and traditions of the ancient town. This year’s Iganmode Day is the 31st edition and it will hold in the industrial city of Ota, from Monday, 11th to Saturday 16th December 2023, with the theme, ‘Ota: The Cradle of Awori Civilisation’.
While addressing the gathering, Opaleye congratulated the monarch, his chiefs, and sons and daughters of the ancient Awori kingdom on the occasion of this year’s Iganmode Day.
He described the festival as an iconic symbol of unity for the Awori people at home and in the Diaspora, adding that Eagle Aromatic Schnapps brand was excited to identify with the throne of Olota and the Awori people again because Eagle Aromatic Schnapps and Ota had become synonymous as one brand.
He said, “Ota is not only the world capital of the Aworis at home and in the Diaspora; Ota is the proud home of Eagle Aromatic Schnapps. As Nigeria’s authentic prayer drink and cultural heritage brand, Eagle Aromatic Schnapps is pleased to associate with Iganmode Day. Both brands are iconic symbols.”
In his reaction, Obalanlege lauded Eagle Aromatic Schnapps for the support the brand had been giving to his throne and the Ota Kingdom, and for the commitment to the promotion of the cultural heritage of the Awori people, as well as the prosperity of the kingdom and its people, including residents and non-indigenes.
“Let me on behalf of all Awori sons and daughters at home and those in the Diaspora express profound appreciation to IDL and especially Eagle Aromatic Schnapps for the long-standing relationship with the throne of the Olota of Ota. Without any iota of doubt, the unwavering support that you have always given to our cultural heritage assets is phenomenal. Iganmode Day is indeed one of our proud heritage symbols; so, we are grateful to Eagle Aromatic Schnapps for this huge support,” the monarch said.
