Delta LG denies closure of market over monarch’s passage rites

The Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, Dr Michael Tidi, has refuted speculations on social media platforms of the planned closure of the popular Igbudu Market in Warri on Saturday, June 17, 2023, over traditional rites of passage for a monarch in the community.

A signed statement by the Council Chairman on Friday, copies of which were made available to journalists, stated that the rites of passage of the Ovie of Agbarha, Warri, His Majesty London Orhifi Ememoh II, slated for Saturday, June 17, “does not pose any security threat to traders in Igbudu Market and customers intending to carry out their usual purchases.”

The Council Chairman stated that “the Local Government had to make the clarification, following repeated inquiries from traders and other critical stakeholders.”

Tidi, while restating his administration’s resolve to sustain the support of traditional institutions in Warri South Local Government Area, emphasised the unwarranted closure of markets and other business concerns at this time when people are struggling with the economic difficulties heightened by the removal of fuel subsidy, is unnecessary.
