‘No Cause For Alarm’ NNPC Reacts To Lagos pipeline explosion
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd (NNPC) has reacted to the pipeline explosion that rocked the Iyana-Odo/Baruwa area of Lagos State on Friday.
Recall that that electric cable had on Friday collapsed in the locality which led to sparks and the sparks got to spill petrol around the area which led to the pipeline gutting fire and a subsequent explosion.
The incident had resulted in blackouts in some parts of Lagos State.
Reacting, the Group Managing Director, NNPC Ltd., Mele Kyari, said the explosion will not affect the supply of petroleum products across the country.
Represented by the Managing Director, Pipelines and Products Marketing Company Ltd., Isiyaku Abdullahi, the NNPC boss stated this when he visited the scene of the incident.
In an interview with reporters on Friday, the NNPC boss said the fire incident was a result of a powerline collapse on a section of System 2B pipeline within the area.
He stated that officials of the company were working with the Lagos State Government and other relevant authorities to permanently put off the fire.
“We want to assure Nigerians that this incident will not affect the supply and distribution of petroleum products across the country,” he said.
Meanwhile, Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKDC) has said areas under its network of operations affected by the incident include Akangba, Amuwo, Apapa, FESTAC, Orile and Yaba.
In a statement posted on its social media page on Friday, EKEDC said others are Yaba, Ijesha, LUTH, Tejuosho and environs.
“We are working with our Transmission Company of Nigeria partners on a swift resolution and will keep you updated on the situation.
“Thank you for your understanding,” the statement reads.
Similarly, Ikeja Electric Plc said areas affected under its network were PTC/Isolo, Airport/Isolo, Ajao, Afprint, Aswani, Amukoko, Ijesha, Old Ojo, as well as Jakande and environs.
“We are currently working with our TCN colleagues to ensure quick resolution and will keep you updated on the situation.
“Thank you for your understanding,” it said in a statement issued on Friday.
