2023: PDP Chairman Reveals What The Party Is Looking For In Its Candidates

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Iyorchia Ayu has declared that only valuable politicians will be able to clinch the party’s 2023 tickets for elections.

Ayu stated that politicians who have not been able to connect with their people in the grassroots and impact them would be denied party tickets.

He made the submission on Tuesday at an event organized for supporters who recently defected to the PDP in Otukpo, Benue state.

According to the PDP boss, the time is over when politicians will be getting party tickets simply because they have big names or they have money.

“Under my leadership of the PDP, it will not just be about big men who have no connection with their people. If you are a big name in the PDP, let us know what you have done in your polling booths, in your wards and in your local governments,” he said.

“Those politicians who stay in Abuja and do not go to their people have no value to the PDP. Those who have value to the PDP are people who are always with their people. They are like fish that swim in the water.”

Meanwhile, the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC in Cross River State has threatened to sack all appointees in its government who are members of the opposition People Democratic Party, PDP.

Ezenwoko’s Blog understands that the threat was issued by the APC chairman in the state, Alphonsus Eba.

The party leader who addressed members of the Nigerian Union of Journalists on Tuesday at its press centre on preparations for the 2023 general election, called on Governor Ben Ayade’s appointees to immediately decamp to the state ruling party or risk losing their appointments.

According to Eba, the party was abiding with its constitution article 9 subsection 2 and gave a deadline of December 31st, 2021 for those that have not yet decamped to do so.

He stressed that the party constitution cautions them against accepting appointments in opposition parties while non-members of the party are not welcome to hold appointments or engagements.
