Insecurity: Sokoto Governor, Tambuwal Visits Buhari In Abuja
The Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal has visited President Muhammadu Buhari at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja in the wake of the security challenges which rocked the state recently.
Ezenwoko’s Blog reports the two leaders met on Monday at the presidential villa and discussed the security challenges facing Sokoto including recommendations on the way out.
The meeting comes barely a week after bandit terrorists attacked some travellers in Sokoto State and burnt scores of them to death.
The travellers were set ablaze around 10am in Gidan Bawa village in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of the state as confirmed by the State Police Command.
The incident has caused different reactions and condemnations including uproars in some quarters on how human lives seem to have totally lost its value and the criminals killing innocent people at will.
After Monday’s meeting at the Villa, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Governor, Mohammed Bello said his principal urged President Buhari to declare a state of emergency in areas affected by insurgents and terrorists.
Bello in a statement said the declaration should not only be limited to Sokoto State but be extended to states such as Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna, Niger Kebbi, and other states where the criminals are operating.
Gov. Tambuwal during the meeting also appealed to the President to make more weapons available to the military and other security agencies to effectively combat the security challenges.
He said the use of technology including the deployment of drones should be adopted in the battle against the terrorists and more personnel should be recruited.
The Governor further called for regional and international collaborations in dealing with the terrorists.
On his part, the President assured the Sokoto State Governor of the commitment and support of the federal government in resolving all security challenges in the state and elsewhere.
After the Sokoto massacre, President Buhari has sent heads of the nation’s intelligence and security services to Sokoto and Katsina states in response to the recent attacks by bandit terrorists.
The presidential delegation led by the National Security Adviser, Major General Babagana Munguno (Rtd) includes the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba; the Director-General of the Department of State Services, Yusuf Magaji Bichi; the Director-General, National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Ahmed Rufa’i Abubakar and the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major General Samuel Adebayo.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi has submitted that attacks, killings, and other activities of criminals including bandits and terrorists in the country happen too frequently to expect President Muhammadu Buhari to visit the victims of such incidents or their families as the case may be.
The Minister stated this during an interview with BBC Hausa where he stated that the nature of the President’s job doesn’t allow him to dedicate much time to condolence visits.
He argued further that security operatives are investigating the issues and giving reports to the President.
The Miniter’s submission comes on the heels of the outrage which greeted the absence of the President at the scene of a recent attack in Sokoto state where bandits attacked and burnt alive scores of passengers.
