Whole Family Of Four Killed, Others Injured In Unilorin Campus Accident

A family of four persons were among those killed in a car accident that happened inside the campus of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) on Monday night.

The sad incident which also left others with severe injuries occurred around 9pm and was said to have been caused by an overspeeding private car that rammed into a campus shuttle bus popularly called ‘korope’.

The family that died consisted of a father, mother, and their two children while the fifth person was said to be a student of the institution – the driver of both vehicles lost their lives in the accident.

A statement on Tuesday by the university’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Kunle Akogun, conveyed the deep sympathy of the management of the University of Ilorin to the families of those who lost their lives in the accident.

The statement also wished the injured a quick recovery while charging drivers and other road users to be more discreet particularly in obeying speed limits.

“The said accident resulted in some fatalities while some occupants of the cars involved also sustained varying degrees of injuries.

“We commiserate with the parents of the deceased and beseech Almighty God to comfort them in this trying period.

“We also condole with the entire student body of the University on the sad loss of their colleagues.

“Management also wishes the injured quick and total recovery.

“We hereby enjoin all vehicle users to strictly abide by traffic rules and regulations, especially as they concern speed limits”.

Meanwhile, some students of Ojodu Grammar School in the Ojodu-Berger area of Lagos State have been killed while others sustained severe injuries during a freak accident on Tuesday afternoon.

Ezenwoko’s Blog gathered that a truck was said to have lost its brake and rammed into the students who were about to cross the road.

It was learned that the truck driver fled the scene but was arrested by students and residents of the area. However, the truck was destroyed and set ablaze by an irate mob.

The number of the students dead and those injured cannot be ascertained yet at the time of filing this report.
