France star admits Watford’s disappointment over Ekong’s error

The Nigerian international was at fault for the opening goal in the Hornets Premier League loss to Brendan Rodgers men on Sunday afternoon

Watford captain Moussa Sissoko has revealed that the Hornets were disappointed with the opening goal they conceded against Leicester City but stopped short of blaming Super Eagles star William Troost-Ekong.

Ekong returned to the starting lineup for the game after he was dropped in the last two league matches, but his performance might have damaged his chances of starting more games.

The Super Eagles captain was at fault for the Foxes opening goal after he failed to deal with a Jonny Evans long ball, which allowed James Maddison to fire past Daniel Bachmann.

Although Watford drew level through Joshua King’s penalty after Emmanuel Dennis was tripped by Wilfred Ndidi, they went on to lose the match 4-2.

The result left a bitter taste in the mouth of Sissoko, who was disappointed with the way they conceded the opening goal.

“I think we started well, but we conceded the first goal and we are disappointed because [William] Troost-Ekong thought someone told him to leave the ball to clear it,” Sissoko said on Watford’s website.

Nonetheless, Watford will hope to bounce back from the defeat when they take on Chelsea at the Vicarage Road on Wednesday, but they could be without their talisman striker Dennis for the clash.
