Arik Airline Staff Arrested At Lagos Airport Over Bribery

Operatives of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) have arrested a staff of Arik Airlines for allegedly seeking bribe from a passenger at the general aviation terminal in Lagos.

Ezenwoko’s Blog reports that this was made known in a statement on Tuesday by Henrietta Yakubu, General Manager, Corporate Affairs of FAAN.

The staff has been handed over to the appropriate agency to take action after the withdrawal of her on-duty card.

Officials were also directed to always wear conspicuous name tags anytime they are on duty.

“Airport managers have been directed to ensure that all stakeholders at the airports are properly sensitised on the new development as there will be no sacred cows,” Yakubu said.

Recall that FAAN had issued warning to workers at Nigeria’s airport who tend to ask for bribes from travellers.

The Authority had threatened to ban such individuals from working at airport terminals across the country for life.

Speaking to newsmen at an emergency meeting, the FAAN Managing Director, Captain Rabiu Yadudu, warned that such act would not be tolerated.

This was following viral video on social media, where an American vlogger identifed as Sabbatical, was seen slamming airport officials for seeking bribe at every point at the Lagos airport.

The foreigner described the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos as “extreme corruption.”
