Three Killed, Many Injured As Gunmen Attack Imo Community

Three persons were killed while many others were injured during an invasion of Anara town in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State, by unknown gunmen.

It was learnt that the gunmen stormed a market in the town around 10pm on Tuesday in a white Sienna vehicle and opened fire on traders and shoppers who were at the market. The gunmen were said to have also shot at unsuspecting residents who scampered for safety in hearing the sound of gunshots

According to an eyewitness, several people who sustained various degrees of gunshots were rushed to an undisclosed hospital for treatment, adding that some of the victims of the attack include two Igbo traders and a Hausa trader selling Suya.

“The gunmen were in a white Sienna vehicle. As they arrived at the market, they just opened fire and shot dead three people and several others were wounded from the gunshots, the three people died immediately,” the witness told reporters.

As of the time of filing the report, the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Mike Abattam, has yet to issue a statement on the sad incident.
