Gunmen Kill Many In House-To-House Attack

Armed men on Tuesday killed many people, while properties were burnt down in an attack on communities in the Batsari Local Government Area of Katsina State.

It was disclosed that the attack which started on Tuesday evening and extended into Wednesday morning saw houses and vehicles set ablaze.

As of the time of filing this report, the number of people killed and injured in the attack could not be ascertained.

A source that spoke with Daily Trust said, “In each of the communities invaded, the gunmen fired sporadically into the air to register their presence before going from house to house, looting victims of valuables and harassing residents.”

The source further stated that residents of the affected communities were trying to run for safety when they sustained injuries.

The lawmaker representing Batsari in the Katsina State House of Assembly, Jabir Yauyau, while reacting to the incident described it as an unfortunate incident.

He said, “It is confirmed that the attack took place, but the casualties and the extent of damage caused is not yet known, especially because of the lack of mobile network in the area.”

“I am told about the majority of those killed. They are people I know personally, but I still need to confirm.

“I am trying to ascertain what actually happens because I am going to move a motion on matters of public importance in the house, but I have to get the actual thing.”
