Nnamdi Kanu’s International Lawyer To Drag Nigerian Govt Before US Govt, ICC, Others

The international lawyer representing the interest of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu has alleged that the Nigerian judiciary is biased and compromised.

The American lawyer, Bruce Fein said Kanu’s rights have been grossly violated and the Nigerian judiciary is targeting him specifically by denying him access to his client despite flying all the way from America to see the IPOB leader whose interests he represents.

Fein made the submission on Wednesday after he was denied access into the courtroom by security agents at the resumed hearing of Nnamdi Kanu’s trial before Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

He lamented that despite the subsisting order which allows Kanu to have access to three persons he chooses, the security agents still refuse to allow him meet his client or monitor the court process.

He threatened to report the Nigerian government and particularly the judicial arm to the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention in Geneva, the International Court of Justice in the Hague, the ICC in the Hague, and the United States Congress.

The lawyer added that he would be pushing for sanctions against the government.

“Today was the fifth time I was told I could not enter the courtroom despite the court’s previous order that Nnamdi could have access to any three persons he wants to.

“I had the chance to talk briefly to him on my way to the courtroom. It is clear that I am the target in particular. That’s the reason why this proceeding did not transpire today.

“And I’m here to tell Nigerians and the international community that I’m taking this to international tribunals. It is clear that the Nigerian tribunals are compromised,” he told journalists in Abuja after the court proceedings.

Fein threatened to petition “the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention in Geneva, the International Court of Justice in the Hague, the ICC in the Hague and I’ll be going to the United States Congress and urging that sanctions be considered against Nigeria for gross violations of fundamental human rights”.

“I’m here not to be an irritant but there are huge international law issues that are present in Nnamdi Kanu’s case. I’m here because I’m an international expert to provide more enlightenment on what legal issues are present here,” Fein added.

Meanwhile, Aloy Ejimakor, Special Counsel to the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has expressed displeasure over what transpired at the resumed trial of his client on Wednesday.

Ejiofor alongside other lawyers representing the IPOB leader staged a walk-out to protest the refusal of operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) to allow members of his legal team into the court.

In a tweet via his Twitter page on Wednesday, Ejimakor condemned the actions of the security operatives during the court case at the Federal High Court, Abuja.

He described the denial of Kanu’s lawyers into the courtroom and the adjournment of his client’s case till January 19, 2022, as a “travesty of justice”, adding that will surely take urgent & decisive measures.

His reaction comes after the trial judge, Binta Nyako had adjourned Kanu’s case until the 19th and 20th of January 2022.
