Anambra 2021: Soludo Speaks Ahead Of Supplementary Election In Ihiala
The candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the Anambra governorship election, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, has expressed confidence in winning the exercise.
Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared the November 6 governorship election in the state inconclusive.
The Returning Officer for the Gubernatorial Election, Professor Florence Obi made the announcement at the INEC head office in Awka, Anambra capital, on Sunday.
Obi disclosed that the election was declared inconclusive over alleged irregularities discovered in most communities in Ihiala Local Government Area of the state.
She declared that the election process remains suspended until after a supplementary election is held in all the polling units in the area.
The vice-chancellor of the University of Calabar, however, announced that the supplementary election has been scheduled to hold today, November 9, 2021.
As it stands now, APGA’s candidate, Prof Soludo, has won 18 out of 20 local government declared so far in Anambra State, with a total of 103,946 votes.
Followed by the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Valentine Ozigbo with 51,322 votes and the Young Progressives Party candidate, Ifeanyi Uba, with 42,942 votes coming a distant third.
But in a post on his Facebook page on Tuesday morning, Soludo stated he is already the winner of the election, saying that the race is “over”.
The former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) added that with the current statistics shown by INEC, he will be declared the winner of the 2021 Anambra governorship election.
He wrote: “Let’s do simple math. Ihiala has 148,000 registered voters but only 42,000 voters picked up their PVC. So INEC statistics shows that you won’t get more than 42,000 votes in Ihiala. It is game over.”
