NIPSS: President Buhari Makes Fresh Appointment

The President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Professor Ayo Omotayo as the Director-General of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), subject to Senate approval.

This development was disclosed on Tuesday when the Senate President, Dr. Ahmad Lawan read Buhari’s letter during the day’s plenary.

NIPSS is a policy formation center for bureaucrats, private sector leaders, Army officers, and medium-rank and senior civil servants, which was founded in 1979. It is located in Kuru, near Jos, Plateau State.

The President in his letter to the legislators said Omotayo’s nomination as the new boss of NIPISS is in accordance with Section 5(2) of the NIPSS Act 2004.

The letter had an attachment of Prof. Omotayo’s CV and the President urged the Senators to expedite action on his confirmation.

The letter titled: “Request for confirmation of appointment of Prof. Ayo C. Omotayo PhD as Director-General, National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS),” reads: “In accordance with the provision of Section 5 subsection 2 of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies Act 2004, I write to present for confirmation by the Senate, the appointment of Prof. Ayo C. Omotayo as Director-General, National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS).

“The nominee’s CV is attached herewith. It is my hope that the Senate will consider and confirm the nominee in the usual expeditious manner.”

Meanwhile, the Sokoto State Command of the Nigeria Police has denied reports that armed bandits have taken over some communities in the state and imposed heads and fines on the residents.

The Police said it was aware of the news in circulation claiming bandits have taken over Sabon Birni villages and subjected the residents to tax payment.

Ezenwoko’s Blog reports that Sabon Birni, a local government area in Sokoto State has experienced multiple attacks by gunmen in recent times.

However, the spokesperson of the Sokoto Police Command, ASP Sanusi Abubakar in a statement on Monday issued on behalf of the State Commissioner of Police said bandits have not imposed new heads or fines on the people of the community as claimed in some reports.
