Anambra Election: Police Speak On Arrest Of Assasin Hired By Andy Uba
The Anambra Police Command has denied the arrest of a suspect who allegedly confessed that the candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the November 6 governorship election, Andy Uba, employed him as an assassin.
Ezenwoko’s Blog reports that the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) in the state, DCP Aderemi Adeoye, made this known in a statement on Sunday.
He denied the alleged confession by a member of a killer squad that Uba purportedly hired.
Adeoye described the confessional statement as strange, adding that no suspect in police custody made such a statement against Andy Uba or anyone.
He said: “There is no one in the description given that is in our custody. No one is above the law and if any such disclosure was made against anyone, whoever might be indicted in any crime would have been pulled in for questioning.
“We, therefore, urge the general public, particularly, the good people of Anambra State not to panic.
“The CP equally implores well-meaning individuals especially the members of the fourth estate of the realm to discard sentiment and to assist the Police in the Command by reporting security-related issues in the most professional and objective manner.”
Meanwhile, bandits in Kaduna state have abducted 9 people and are demanding a ransom of N50m.
The incident occurred in Dangilmi community in Kachi Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Kaduna chapter, Rev Joseph John Hayab confirmed the crime and stated that the kidnappers were demanding N50m as ransom.
The community where the crime was carried out is not far from Bethel Baptist High School where some students numbering over a hundred were abducted in July, 2021.
The reverend said: “They were abducted close to Jakaranda and the bandits are demanding N50 million. On Friday, I got calls from the villagers and even their leaders and I told them what can we do in such a situation.”
