Why Abok Nuhu Was Removed As Plateau Speaker
The reason the Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abok Ayuba Nuhu, was removed has been uncovered.
Ezenwoko’s Blog earlier reported that Nuhu’s impeachment was backed by votes of sixteen lawmakers out of the 24 members of the Assembly.
Following his impeachment on Thursday, Nuhu was replaced with Sanda Yakubu, who hails from Pingana constituency of Bassa Local Government Area of the state.
However, Daily Trust gathered that Nuhu was impeached because he fell out with the state governor, Simon Lalong over the killings in the state.
It was learned that the impeached speaker and the governor became political enemies following the attack and killing of some residents of Yelwan Zagam, a community of Jos North.
After the attack, the speaker started criticising the governor openly and also stopped attending public functions in the state.
Due to the disagreement, the governor allegedly masterminded Nuhu’s impeachment and was supported by All Progressives Congress (APC) members, who were in the majority.
Earlier, security operatives had taken over the Assembly and blocked the road leading to the Assembly complex located along John Mark Samci road in Jos.
It was gathered that the security operatives were drafted to the Assembly complex to prevent a breakdown of law and order over the impeachment of the Speaker.
