12yrs girl caged inside deep freezer rescued

Sokoto State Police Command has rescued a 12-years-old Joy who has been caged and starved for about eight month by her guardians, one Emmanuel Bassey and Esther Emmanuel.

On receiving the information, patrol team attached to Dadin Kowa Division, moved to the scene where the victim was rescued and taken to the hospital for medical attention.

The victim was caged in a condemned deep freezer kept in a zinc house, neighbours said she has been in that condition for the past eight months when the suspects moved in as new tenants without their knowledge. The police were invited by neighbours when they first noticed the dehumanised condition of the girl.

The Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State CP Kamaldeen Kola Okunlola,the Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs, Mrs Kulu Sifawa and officials of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), visited the crime scene and proceed to Specialist Hospital Sokoto where the victim was admitted.

Commissioner Sifawa said the state government will take responsibility of treating the victim and ensure that she is properly recuperated.

CP Okunlola assured that proper investigation into the matter has commenced already to know the actual parents of the victim.
He further stated that such act is inhuman and totally repugnant to natural justice, equity and good conscious of the law.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sanusi Abubakar said the suspects will be prosecuted in order to serve as deterrent to others who engage in similar acts.
