The President, General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has sent a message of congratulations to British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, over his victory at the United Kingdom’s general poll.
He said the victory was “resounding”, according to a statement by his media aide, Mr. Garba Shehu, issued in Abuja on Friday.
“The President notes that Britain has been a reliable and historically unique ally of Nigeria, and has particularly supported this administration’s efforts at improving security and recovering stolen assets held in the UK Channels TV reports.
“President Buhari looks forward to continuing working with the Prime Minister to forge a stronger Nigeria-UK relationship, especially in the area of trade and economic partnerships which greatly benefits the citizens of both countries”, the statement said.
The elections decided on Thursday came amid uncertainty over Brexit, which Johnson promised he would deliver by January 2020.
His Conservative Party already has 365 out 650 seats in parliament, against the Labour Party’s 203 seats.
The outcome of the polls means Johnson is comfortably placed to push the Brexit agenda forward.
