Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, says in order for the team to win the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, they must prepare to beat heavyweights Cameroon and Ghana.
The Eagles were stunned 2-0 by less-fancied Madagascar in their final group game of the competition on Sunday in Alexandria meaning, the team will likely face a high-profile team in the last 16.
Nigeria’s next opponent could be Ghana or Cameroon who are billed to play their final group games on Tuesday (today) in Ismailia and Suez respectively.
Reacting to Nigeria’s Round of 16 fate, Rohr said, “If you want to win a tournament, you have to be able to beat teams like Ghana and Cameroon and we did it already. Even if we finish first we can play against South Africa or another very strong team.”
The German tactician has also stated that he knows his boys will always rise to the occasions when the going becomes tough.
“All the games now are open and I think we can be confident because in very important games the players are always ready to prove themselves.”
