The 5G OnePlus 7 Pro sports the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset, 6.67 inch 90Hz QHD+ display, 4000mAh battery, and triple rear cameras as the regular model, but it also packs the Snapdragon X50 modem for sub-6GHz 5G support on EE’s network in the United Kingdom.
OnePlus already released the kernel source code for the non-5G model, but now the company has updated the sources to synchronize the changes for the 5G model. What this means for the community is that developers interested in porting AOSP-based ROMs or TWRP to the 5G model will be able to do so.
The 7 Pro has already received official TWRP supportand when the developers in the OnePlus developer program receive their devices, we can expect to see a handful of popular custom ROMs and custom kernels pop up on our forums. 5G support in custom ROMs may be tricky, though, so make sure to pay attention to forum threads before flashing any software designed for the 4G LTE version of the device. You should always carefully read the OP of any forum thread before downloading and installing any modifications for your device, though.
If we spot any custom development work appear for the 5G model, we’ll let you all know. If you’ve purchased the 5G model for use on EE’s network, let us know what your speeds are like in the comments below!
