AS THE ANCIENT NOTRE DAME CATHEDRAL BURNS

 

The above video by Euro News captures the falling spire of the Notre Dame Cathedral. As one of the most popular monuments in the world is ravaged by an inferno whose cause is yet to be determined, the heart of the world is poured out to Paris and to France, over four  hundred fire fighters have been mobilised,  the french president is already at the scene of the unfortunate disaster and investigation is already underway.  The Notre Dame was finished in 1345 and is tourist destination to an average of thirteen million people yearly but there has been no lives lost so far. There has been no blame games, no political points, just a people united in their grief. Interesting lessons for my beloved country.

  1. Is a pity such a structural wonder is gone. Thankfully, no human life is lost. However, ancient monuments have a life of their own. Metaphorically, they live.     The history and culture behind ancients buildings are so deep and rich that one cannot help but mentally reconstruct those events. The history that brought them about is always as awe-inspiring as the physical structures themselves. Is a pity the world just lost a structural link between the past and the present. A window into the 14th century. Notre Dame weathered all for more than 700 hundred years, but brought to ruin by a mysterious inferno.
