A Human Life For A Cow: The Killing Fields of Plateau

animal-attack-01-004-512

As the nation woke up to the shock of the news of yet another incident of apparently well coordinated slaughter of our fellow citizens in Razat, Ruku, Nyarr, Kura and Gana – Ropp villages of Gashish District in Barkin Ladi Local Government of Plateau State, several groups and individuals have come forth to issue statements on the incident.

While a middle belt group that goes by the name Middle Belt Conscience Guard, through its national president one Raymond Enero is reported to have stated thus:

“The information at our disposal shows that the plot is to indiscriminately kill innocent people to create the impression of ethnically or sectarian motivated attacks”.

The chairman, North Central zone of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) is reported to have stated that the attack was in retaliation to the killing of over 300 cows in the last few weeks by the villages.

The Mohammed Buhari led Federal Government of Nigeria has said that the perpetrators will be brought to book.

All well and good. With the number of well known individuals having information on the killers and the reasons for the killings, the perpetrators are as good as known.

We hope to hear of many arrests within the next few days. Also a sincere approach will only manifest in a major shake up of the security apparatus of state. The embarrassment is more than any serious government can take without heads rolling. Three hundred cows are definitely not worth the life of any Nigerian.

  1. It’s most unfortunate that people could be heartless and wicked. The government has to either act now or it would be a condoned and endorsed way of life in this country

  2. It’s unfortunate we have lost our Humanity in Nigeria. Human life has no value greater than the value of an animal. Shame
